The Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts (PAFA), located in Philadelphia, is a specialized and unique art school that attracts some of the most committed and promising art students from across the country and around the globe to study painting, drawing, printmaking, sculpture, and fine arts illustration with a distinguished faculty of working artists. The school holds a position of national prestige, with cutting-edge studio and classroom facilities, private studios for students, a historic cast collection, and the opportunity for students to exhibit in a world-class museum.
The highly anticipated Open Studios Night and the Annual Student Exhibition (ASE) allow the public to view the high quality and incredible diversity in the vision and voice of PAFA’s student artists. The ASE is the largest and longest-standing exhibition of its kind, featuring over 1,000 works of art by PAFA students, exhibited in the Academy’s museum galleries.
Studio arts training at PAFA provides the foundational skills, intellectual context, discipline and creativity for a lifetime of making art. Students may earn a Certificate or BFA undergraduate degree at PAFA.
Transfer students are welcome to the Certificate and BFA programs. Every effort is made to assist you in obtaining as many credits as possible without impacting their PAFA experience.
Students are strongly encouraged to submit course descriptions and a transfer portfolio (on CD) of artwork from any courses being evaluated for transfer.
PAFA currently has transfer agreements with five regional community colleges. Merit-based awards of up to $6,000 are available to transfers from Camden County and Montgomery County Community Colleges and Community College of Philadelphia. PAFA may consider starting transfer agreements with other interested community colleges.
