Campus Location

University of North Carolina Wilmington, North Carolina’s coastal university, is dedicated to the integration of teaching and mentoring with research and service. We are consistently recognized at a national level for academic excellence and affordability. A public institution with approximately 16,500 students, the university is focused on supporting and enhancing the student-centered learning experience that has been a hallmark since our founding in 1947. Here, you will enjoy a powerful academic experience that stimulates creative inquiry, critical thinking and thoughtful expression in a beautiful campus setting.

The University is accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and School Commission on Colleges to award bachelor’s, master’s, and doctoral degrees. UNCW offers close to 60 undergraduate degrees and almost 40 graduate degrees in arts, sciences, health, human services, business, and education. The campus is centrally located in Wilmington, five miles from Wrightsville Beach and the historic Wilmington downtown area. Our 660-acre campus includes 55 academic and student service buildings within an attractive and welcoming environment. Students are the focus! Our student to faculty ratio is 18:1 and the average class size is 22. Our students have the opportunity to apply their classroom knowledge in research, internships, and service learning experiences. UNCW also offers study abroad experiences in over 500 different programs in 50 different countries.

UNCW welcomes transfer applications for undergraduate programs throughout the year with priority deadlines on March 1 (for summer/fall start dates) and October 15 (for spring). Transfer applications are reviewed with a holistic approach.

Recommendations for a competitive transfer application may include: at least 24 hours of college level work (completed or in progress); 6 hours of college-level English; 3 hours of college-level math; and a 2.5 cumulative GPA. About 42% of our entering class of Seahawks are transfer students. Admissions awards transfer merit based scholarships during the admission process and student applying by the March 1 priority deadline are automatically considered, with no additional application.
